International Women’s Day 2018

The noun, FEMINISM, was looked up more than any other word, a 70 percent increase from the previous year, coinciding with a spike in news coverage related to women’s rights, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary reported.

“No one word can ever encapsulate all the news, events, or stories of a given year – particularly a year with so much news and so many stories,” Merriam-Webster said. “But when a single word is looked up in great volume, and also stands out as one associated with several different important stories, we can learn something about ourselves through the prism of vocabulary. There is an ongoing national conversation, and Merriam-Webster has a front-row seat.”

This year, the campaign theme for International Women’s Day is #PressforProgress, a strong call for collective action to establish gender inclusivity around the world.

Thursday, March 8th marks the 109th International Women’s Day celebration. People will be celebrating around the globe. Here in Minnesota we have Equal Rights Amendment Day of Action at the MN state Capitol hosted by MN NOW, MSP NOW, AAUW Minneapolis, Women’s March MN, RISE, St. Croix Valley Women’s Alliance and more! Along with that there is a Women in Green Power Breakfast MN hosted by U.S. Green Building Council Minnesota, FeMNist Day Unconference, and Indoor Night Market hosted by Still Kicken, Nora McInerny, and The Coven, where you can treat yourself to a fun evening by buying from Minnesota’s most talented women makers and businesses and can purchase goods, participate in activities, print customized gear and enjoy your time celebrating the empowerment of women in Minnesota.
